WALKING IN VICTORY (22)

“For we walk by faith, not by sight” – 2 Corinthians 5:7

LIGHT FOR NOW: Victory in the believer’s life requires learning to live beyond visible circumstances and trusting the unseen realities of God’s word.

One of the greatest differences between natural living and spiritual living is the principle by which each operates. The natural man is governed primarily by what he sees, feels, hears, and experiences physically. But the believer is called to live by a higher reality, faith. Paul says: “For we walk by faith…” Again, the word “walk” speaks of daily conduct and lifestyle. This means faith is not meant to be an occasional spiritual activity reserved only for emergencies. Faith is meant to become the believer’s daily way of living. The word “faith” comes from the Greek word pistis, meaning conviction, persuasion, trust, or confident reliance upon God. Biblical faith is not blind optimism or positive thinking alone. True faith is confidence in the integrity and reliability of God’s word.
Faith says: “If God has spoken, then His word is greater than my circumstances”. Paul then says: “…not by sight”. The word “sight” here refers not merely to physical eyesight, but to outward appearances, visible conditions, and sensory evidence. This is important because many believers unconsciously allow circumstances determine their spiritual stability. When things look favorable, they feel victorious. When challenges arise, fear overwhelms them. But faith remains anchored even when visible evidence appears contrary. Abraham is one of the clearest examples of this principle. Romans 4 says that despite his old age and Sarah’s barrenness, Abraham “staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief”. Naturally speaking, the promise looked impossible. But Abraham chose to trust God’s word above visible limitations. This is what faith does: It places God’s reality above human impossibility.
One major reason believers struggle with fear is because they focus excessively on visible problems. Peter walked on water while his attention remained fixed on Jesus. But the moment he became overwhelmed by the wind and waves, fear entered. What dominates your focus eventually influences your faith. This does not mean believers should pretend challenges do not exist. Scripture never teaches denial of reality. Rather, faith acknowledges that God’s truth is higher than temporary circumstances. The believer must learn to interpret situations through scripture rather than interpreting scripture through situations. Many times, victory manifests progressively.

Joseph received prophetic dreams long before fulfillment appeared. David was anointed king while still tending sheep. Israel marched around Jericho before the walls fell visibly. Faith often walks before manifestation appears. Hebrews 11:1 says: “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. Faith gives spiritual substance to unseen realities because it trusts the character of God. This is why believers must guard against living entirely by emotions. Emotions fluctuate, circumstances change; but God’s word remains constant. Victory belongs to believers who continue trusting God even when visible evidence has not fully aligned yet. The Christian life was never designed to be governed merely by appearances. It is governed by confidence in the faithfulness of God.

INSTRUCTION: Train yourself to respond to situations with faith instead of fear. Spend more time meditating on God’s promises than on negative circumstances.

PRAYER: I walk by faith and not by sight. God’s word governs my thinking, emotions, and decisions. I refuse fear and unbelief, and I stand confidently in the promises and victory of Christ. Amen.
