LIGHT FOR NOW: The life Christ gives is not a life of mere spiritual survival. It is the abundant life of God; a life that flows from union with Christ and is greater than the emptiness, darkness, and limitations of the old life.
One of the clearest statements concerning the purpose of Christ’s coming is found in John 10:10. Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”. Christianity is therefore not merely about escaping judgment or preparing for heaven. Christ came to give life. The word translated “life” is the Greek word zoe, referring to the life that comes from God. It is more than biological existence. A person can be physically alive and yet remain spiritually disconnected from the life God intended. Jesus came to change that reality. He came so that humanity could receive the life found in Him. But Jesus did not stop at saying, “that they might have life”. He added, “and that they might have it more abundantly.” The idea is not merely possessing life in the smallest possible measure. It points to the richness and fullness of the life Christ brings.
This does not mean every believer will automatically possess unlimited material wealth, a life without difficulties, or freedom from every earthly challenge. The abundant life is first the fullness of what Christ has brought to us through redemption. It is a life of fellowship with God, a life of righteousness, a life of peace, a life of joy, a life empowered by the Holy Spirit, a life that possesses hope even in difficult seasons. Before Christ, humanity was searching for life in the wrong places. Some search for it in possessions. Others search for it in achievement, pleasure, relationships, or human approval. Yet even after gaining these things, the heart can remain empty. Why? Because created things were never designed to become the source of the life only Christ can give.
Jesus is not merely an addition to an already complete life. He is the source of true life. This is why Paul could say, “For to me to live is Christ”. Christ was not simply part of Paul’s life. Christ had become the centre and source from which his entire life flowed. The abundant life therefore begins with a change of source. You stop looking to temporary things to give you what only Christ can provide. This does not mean you cannot enjoy God’s blessings. It simply means the blessings are not your life; Christ is. When Christ becomes your source, circumstances lose the power to completely define your joy and identity. You may experience difficult moments without becoming spiritually empty. You may lose something without losing the One who is your life.
The abundant life is therefore not measured merely by what surrounds you. It is measured first by Who lives within you. And Christ lives in you. This means you possess a source of life greater than the emptiness of the world. You possess peace that circumstances cannot permanently manufacture. You possess joy deeper than temporary excitement. You possess hope that goes beyond present situations. You possess fellowship with the Father. This is the life Jesus came to give. So today, do not reduce Christianity to mere survival. Do not think Christ came only to help you manage a difficult life; He came to become your life. And because His life is within you, you can live from a source greater than everything around you. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Today, examine the things you have been depending upon for satisfaction and security. Refuse to make temporary things your source of life. Consciously declare: “Christ is my life and my true source”.
CONFESSION/PRAYER: Father, thank You for the abundant life I have received through Christ. I refuse to seek my deepest identity, joy, and satisfaction in temporary things. Christ is my life and my source. Let the fullness of His life be expressed through me in righteousness, peace, joy, love, and hope. I declare that I live from a source greater than the limitations around me, in Jesus Name. Amen.
