LIGHT FOR NOW: The life of Christ within us is not merely a power to be experienced; it is the life of sonship. Through the Spirit, the believer shares in the relationship Christ has brought us into with the Father.
One of the greatest privileges of salvation is that God did not merely save us from something; He brought us into something. He brought us into His family. Christianity is not only about forgiveness from sin. It is also about receiving a new relationship with God as Father. Paul says, “Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts”. Notice the order. He does not say God sent the Spirit so that we might struggle to become sons. He says, “Because ye are sons”. Sonship is the result of what Christ has accomplished for us. The Spirit who lives within the believer is called “the Spirit of his Son”. This is profound. The very life that characterized Christ’s relationship with the Father is now expressed in us through the Holy Spirit. We do not approach God merely as distant servants trying to gain His attention. Through Christ, we have received the privilege of sons.
The Spirit within us cries, “Abba, Father”. “Abba” is an expression of deep intimacy and affectionate relationship. It reveals that the believer’s relationship with God is not meant to be governed by terror, uncertainty, or rejection. This does not mean we lose reverence for God. He is still holy, sovereign, and glorious. But through Christ, the One who is infinitely holy has also become our Father. We can approach Him with confidence because Christ has brought us near. Many believers know God as Creator. They know Him as Almighty. They know Him as Judge. But the life of Christ within us reveals another glorious reality: God is our Father. This changes the way we pray. It changes the way we handle failure. It changes the way we face the future.
A servant may fear that failure will cause him to be thrown out. But a child knows he belongs to the family. Even when correction is necessary, the Father’s heart remains a heart of love. Romans 8:15 says we have not received “the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption”. The Christian life was never designed to be lived under the constant fear of rejection. The Spirit within you continually reminds you that you belong to God. This is part of the life of Christ in us. Jesus did not merely come to reveal God to humanity. He came to bring humanity into a relationship with the Father through Himself. Therefore, your Christian life is not an attempt to earn God’s acceptance.
In Christ, you are accepted. You do not obey in order to become His child. You obey because you are His child. You do not pray to convince Him to become your Father. You pray because the Father has already opened the way through Christ. So today, remember that the life within you is the life of sonship. The Holy Spirit is not merely a power working around you. He is the Spirit of God’s Son dwelling within you, continually drawing your heart toward the Father. You belong. You are received. You are loved. And through Christ, you can boldly say: “Abba, Father”. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Throughout today, consciously approach God as your Father. Do not allow fear, guilt, or feelings of rejection to keep you distant from Him. Let the Spirit within you remind you that you belong to God’s family.
CONFESSION/PRAYER: Father, thank You for bringing me into Your family through Christ. I am not a stranger or an outsider; I am Your child. Thank You for the Spirit of Your Son who lives within me and continually draws me into fellowship with You. I refuse fear and the consciousness of rejection. I walk today in the confidence, love, and security of sonship. Abba, Father, I belong to You, in Jesus Name. Amen.
