Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. – Romans 12:9-13

LIGHT FOR NOW: Walk in love.

From the explanations done so far in Galatians 5:22-23 in previous studies, we came to deduce that when a man got saved, he was born with love, meekness, temperance, patience, joy, goodness, peace, gentleness, and faithfulness. The born again man does not try to love or be patient, it is part of his nature. Thus, to walk in love will be to walk in our nature. This was what Paul explained earlier as walk in the spirit in Galatians 5, it reads “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts” (Galatians 5:16 & 24). The born again man has received the spirit (Galatians 3:2), he began in the spirit (Galatians 3:3), he is alive in the spirit (Galatians 5:24a), and he can conduct himself in the spirit (Galatians 5:16). Paul explained further in verse 25 of Galatians 5 which reads “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit”. The word “walk” used here is the word “stoicheo” in Greek which implies a particular step, a rule, a principle, a particular path. He used the same word “stoicheo” in chapter 6:16 which reads “And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God”. He explained the principle in context in verse 15 of Galatians 6 which reads “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature”. Hence, Paul in Galatians 5:25 was not referring to a journey; rather, a principle and that principle is love. Therefore, the instruction to walk in the spirit is the same as walking in love. The singular principle of the new creature is love. So love is our nature as believers; to walk in love is natural to us. We have the capacity to love; we can walk in love and forgive others the same way God loved us and forgave us, for Christ’s sake. That sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was not just to take away sins; the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is the example of the believers’ love walk. So, just like Jesus loved us unconditionally, we love for others unconditionally; just like Jesus did not find reasons for loving us, we don’t look for reasons for loving others; just like Jesus’ love for us was not a reaction to good actions because we were not good at all, then our love for others will not be a reaction but a pro-action as exemplified by Jesus’ action of love. Let’s walk in love.

INSTRUCTION: Walk in love.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for revealing my nature to me in your word, I declare that I do your word; I walk in love in Jesus Name, Amen

QUOTE: The sacrifice of Jesus did not just take away sins; the sacrifice of Jesus exemplifies the believers’ love walk.
