“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead” – Romans 1:1-4
LIGHT FOR NOW: The gospel is not in His death but in His life.
The Gospel of God is concerning Jesus. It is very particular and specific about the person of Christ. The Bible in Luke chapter 24 from verse 25 -27 says, “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself”. The summary of the utterances of the prophets in the Old Testament is the suffering of Christ and the glory that Christ entered into in His resurrection. Jesus is the picture of the scriptures. This is why we must see Christ whenever we study the scriptures. The Gospel is not in riddles or parables. Jesus is God communicated to man. All of God’s revelation for man is in the scriptures. God will never speak to man outside the scriptures. The gospel is in the resurrection of Christ. It is the resurrection of Christ from the dead that ushers us into a new life, the Higher Life – the very life of God. The resurrection of Christ from the dead is a clear manifestation of the power of God. What makes Christ different is not His death but His life. The gospel is not in His death but in His life. John chapter 11 verse 25 says, “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live”.
Life has always been the content of God’s word and has always been the content of resurrection. In God’s word is life and resurrection. You cannot carry the very life of God in you and men or situations of life refuse to obey you. The gospel made life and light available. It brought immortality to light. Whenever the gospel of Christ is preached, light shines. Jesus said, “as long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world”. It is the preaching of the gospel (the message of Christ) that brings light to a dark world and this “light shines in darkness and the darkness comprehendeth it not”.
