THE DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN THE OLD AND THE NEW TESTAMENTS (3)

In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away – Hebrews 8:13

LIGHT FOR NOW: You cannot combine the Old covenant with the New Testament.

The Gospel is the message of a person. If it is not about the person of Jesus, then it is not about the gospel. The believer in Christ has no business equating godliness with material things. Jesus is our satisfaction. Godliness with contentment is great gain. It is dangerous to equate spirituality with material wealth. The moment you begin to measure spirituality with material wealth, you become a destitute. The believer in Christ has the joy of salvation. Once he loses that joy, depression sets in. The gospel is the message of Christ and it is the power of God unto salvation. The New Testament makes the Old Testament retired. The Bible in Hebrews 8:7 says, “For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second”. The fault was not with the Old Covenant but with the people to which it was given. The Law exposed the failures of the people to keep to the Law. You cannot combine the old covenant with the New Testament.

The ministration of the old covenant was death and the ministration of the New Testament gives life. The Old Covenant was life before the cross and the New Testament is life after the Cross. The Law was not for the believer. It was for sinners. The Covenant in Christ predates the Law. The Law was never God’s intention for man but it was an addendum to what God planned for man. Galatians chapter 3 verses 17 and 19 says, “And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect: For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator”.

INSTRUCTION: Leave the Old. Go after the New.

PRAYER: Lord, I thank you for making me a partaker of the New Testament priesthood, in Jesus Name. Amen.

QUOTE: The New Testament makes the Old covenant retired.
