THE DISTINCTIONS BETWEEN THE OLD AND THE NEW TESTAMENTS (2)

“In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away – Hebrews 8:13

LIGHT FOR NOW:  The Old was only a shadow of what was to come; the New is the real substance.

When you try to mix the Old Testament with the New Testament, your relationship with God will be corrupted and your faith life will be affected. The Old Testament was only a shadow or a typology of what should come but the New Testament is the real substance (Hebrews 10:1). Christ Himself is the reality of the New Testament. The Old Testament justified no man. Justification is only by the New Testament. Galatians 3:13-14 (NLT) says, “But Christ has redeemed us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the scriptures, ‘cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree’; through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit though faith”. Justification is therefore in Christ. No man is justified by the deeds of the Law. The Old Testament was only for the nation of Israel but the New Testament is for all nations of the world, including Israel.

The Old Testament is about sin and death; but the New Testament is about life. Romans 8:2 (NLT) says, “And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death”. Jesus is the Surety or the Guarantor of life in the New Covenant. The Law kills but the Spirit gives life. There was a record kept for everything in the Old Testament. This is why Israel had a National Day of Atonement. With the law, sin reigned. In the New Testament, there is no record. The death of Christ satisfied the requirements of the Law (Galatians 3:13-14). The New Testament is the fulfillment of all the requirements for man under the Old Testament by Jesus. Unlike the Old Testament that was written in a book; the New Testament is written in Christ; in His blood; in His sacrificial death and in His life. The believer in Christ is the product of the New Testament. The New Man in Christ is the New Testament. Praise the Lord!!!

INSTRUCTION: Stay in the New Testament.

PRAYER: I am a product of the New Testament in the blood of Christ. I am in the reality of the person of Jesus, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: A believer in Christ is a product of the New Testament.
