“For as the body is one, and hath many members… so also is Christ” – 1Corinthians 12:12
LIGHT FOR NOW: Union with Christ is not only personal; it also creates a spiritual union among believers. When we are joined to Christ, we become members of His body and connected to one another.
Paul gives us a remarkable picture of our union with Christ by describing the Church as a body. He says, “So also is Christ”. Notice that Paul does not merely say, “So also is the church”. He uses the language of Christ to describe Christ and His people in their spiritual union. He explains that one body has many members, yet all the members belong to the same body. This means Christianity was never designed to be lived as an isolated experience. The same Christ who lives in the individual believer also unites believers together.
Paul says in verse 13, “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body”.
The Greek word translated “body” is soma, referring to the physical body. Paul uses this familiar picture to help us understand spiritual reality. Your hand cannot say, “I do not need the eye”. Your foot cannot say, “I am not part of the body”. Every member has a place, a function, and a relationship with the other members. In the same way, every believer has a place within the body of Christ. This means your union with Christ should influence how you treat other believers. You cannot claim deep fellowship with Christ while deliberately living in hatred, unnecessary division, or contempt toward His people.
John writes, “He that loveth his brother abideth in the light” (1 John 2:10). Love for the brethren is therefore not a secondary matter. It is one of the visible expressions of our union with Christ. This also means we should not compare ourselves unnecessarily with other believers. The eye has a different function from the hand. The ear has a different function from the foot. Difference does not mean disconnection. God can use different gifts, personalities, experiences, and assignments while keeping His people united in Christ. Paul therefore says in 1Corinthians 12:27, “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular”. You matter in the body, your contribution matters, your service matters, your gift matters; but you were never designed to function independently of the body.
Union with Christ produces both dependence on Christ and connection with His people. The Christian life is therefore not merely, “Me and Jesus”. It is Christ in me, Christ in you, and Christ among us. When the body walks in love, serves one another, honours different members, and works together, the life of Christ becomes visible in the community. Union with Christ therefore creates a people who belong to one another because they first belong to Him. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Today, honour another believer intentionally. Encourage, serve, forgive, or pray for someone, remembering that you are part of the same body of Christ.
CONFESSION: I am a member of the body of Christ. I walk in love, unity, humility, and honour toward other believers. I recognize my place, value the gifts of others, and allow the life of Christ to be expressed through His body, in Jesus Name. Amen!

QUOTE: Union with Christ does not isolate the believer; it connects him to every other member of Christ’s body.
