THE FATHER’S LOVE (PART 7)

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” – Galatians 4:6

LIGHT FOR NOW: The Father’s love is not merely a doctrine to believe; it is a reality the Holy Spirit continually witnesses within the heart of every believer.

One of the greatest struggles many believers face is not whether God loves people generally, but whether He truly loves them personally. It is often easy to believe: “God loves the church”, “God loves the world”, “God loves His people”. Yet many secretly struggle to believe: “God loves me”. This is why the Father has given believers something wonderful—the inward witness of the Holy Spirit. Paul says: “And because ye are sons…” Notice he does not say believers are trying to become sons; he says they are sons. Sonship is not a reward for spiritual performance; Sonship is a gift received through faith in Christ. John 1:12 says: “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God”. The moment a person trusts in Christ, his relationship with God changes. He is no longer merely a creature before his Creator. He becomes a child before his Father.
Paul then says: “God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts…” This is beautiful. The Father not only declares believers to be His children; He places His Spirit within them as evidence. The Holy Spirit is not merely given for ministry, gifts, or power. He is also given to establish believers in the reality of the Father’s love. The word “heart” in scripture often refers to the inner man; the center of affection, thought, will, and spiritual consciousness. This means the Holy Spirit works inwardly to convince believers of their relationship with God. One of the greatest ministries of the Holy Spirit is revealing the Father. Jesus said: “He shall glorify me”.
And as the Spirit reveals Christ, He simultaneously unveils the Father’s heart. This is why genuine spiritual maturity always produces deeper intimacy with God. The more believers walk with the Spirit, the more they discover the Father’s love. Paul says the Spirit cries: “Abba, Father”. Notice again the language of intimacy. Not fear, not distance, not uncertainty. The Spirit teaches believers to relate to God as beloved children. This was revolutionary. Under the Old Covenant, many people related to God primarily through laws, sacrifices, and ceremonies. But under the New Covenant, believers are brought into intimate fellowship. The Spirit constantly reminds us: You belong to the Father. You are accepted in Christ. You are loved. You are not abandoned. This is important because life often presents situations that challenge our sense of belonging. Failures may come, disappointments may come, seasons of weakness may come.
In such moments, the enemy often whispers: “If God loved you, this wouldn’t happen”. “If you were truly His child, you wouldn’t struggle”. “You have failed too much”. But the Holy Spirit speaks a different message. He continually points believers back to the Father’s love. The security of sonship is not built upon perfect performance. It is built upon the finished work of Christ. This does not produce carelessness. Rather, it produces confidence. A child secure in his father’s love grows differently from one constantly afraid of rejection. Likewise, believers rooted in the Father’s love develop stronger faith, deeper obedience, and greater intimacy with God. The Father’s love is not meant to remain a theological concept. It is meant to become an inward reality continually confirmed by the Holy Spirit.

INSTRUCTION: When you pray today, take time to listen as well as speak. Allow the Holy Spirit to remind you of your identity as a beloved child of God.

CONFESSION/PRAYER: Father, thank You for sending Your Spirit into my heart. Thank You that I am Your child through Jesus Christ. Help me to live daily with confidence, security, and joy in Your unfailing love. Amen.
