WALKING IN VICTORY (19)

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might” – Ephesians 6:10

LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer was never designed to rely solely on human strength. Lasting victory flows from dependence on God’s power.

One major lesson believers must learn early in their walk with God is this: spiritual victory cannot be sustained by human energy alone. There are battles intelligence cannot solve. There are temptations discipline alone cannot overcome. There are seasons where human strength becomes insufficient. This is why Paul says: “Be strong in the Lord…” Notice he did not say “be strong in yourself”. The source of the believer’s strength is God Himself. The phrase “be strong” comes from the Greek word endunamoo, meaning to be empowered, strengthened inwardly, or enabled with ability. This reveals that God does not merely command believers to stand victoriously; He supplies the strength necessary for victory.
Many believers become spiritually exhausted because they attempt to carry spiritual responsibilities through fleshly energy. But Christianity was never designed to function independently of God. Jesus Himself said in John 15:5: “…without me ye can do nothing”. This does not mean believers are useless naturally. Rather, it reveals that lasting spiritual fruitfulness cannot exist apart from abiding in Christ. Paul continues: “…and in the power of his might”. The word “power” here is from the Greek word kratos, which speaks of manifested dominion or ruling power.
The word “might” comes from ischus, referring to endowed strength or force.

Together, these words reveal the overwhelming strength available to believers through God. This means believers are not expected to overcome life’s battles merely through determination or emotional resilience. Heaven’s strength is available. One beautiful truth about God is this: He often reveals His strength most powerfully in human weakness. Paul experienced this personally. In 2 Corinthians 12, after struggling deeply, God told him: “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness”. The word “perfect” there carries the idea of being fully expressed or brought to completion. This means human weakness becomes an opportunity for divine strength to manifest.
Many believers wrongly assume weakness automatically means failure. But weakness can become the doorway into deeper dependence on God. Peter failed when he trusted his own confidence. But after encountering grace, he became strengthened for kingdom purpose. One danger believers must avoid is self-sufficiency. Pride says: “I can handle life myself”. Faith says: “My sufficiency is in God”. This is why prayer is vital. Prayer is not merely presenting requests; it is acknowledging dependence upon God. The believer who prays consistently remains spiritually strengthened because fellowship with God refreshes the inner man.
Isaiah 40:31 says: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…” The word “renew” carries the idea of exchange. As believers wait on God, human weakness is exchanged for divine enablement. This is why believers must stop drawing identity from moments of weakness alone. Yes, challenges come; yes, emotions fluctuate; yes, seasons can become difficult. But God’s strength remains constant. Victory belongs to believers who continually depend on His power rather than their own.

INSTRUCTION: Do not rely solely on your natural ability. Develop deeper dependence on God daily through prayer, fellowship, and trust in His strength.

PRAYER: I am strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. God’s strength works mightily within me. I refuse discouragement and self-dependence, and I walk daily in divine empowerment, endurance, and victory through Christ. Amen.
