“And thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” – 1 Corinthians 15:57
LIGHT FOR NOW: Victory is not a future promise to the believer; it is a present inheritance in Christ. The Christian does not fight for victory; he fights from victory.
One of the greatest misconceptions in Christianity is the idea that victory is something the believer is still trying to attain. But scripture reveals that victory is not a reward for struggle; it is a gift received through Christ Jesus. Paul says, “Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory…” Notice he did not say “will give us.” The victory is already supplied in Christ. The Greek word used for “victory” is nikos, which means conquest, triumph, superiority, or prevailing power. This means the believer has been brought into the realm of Christ’s triumph.
The foundation of our victory is not our strength, discipline, or effort. The foundation is the finished work of Jesus. This is why Colossians 2:15 says Jesus “spoiled principalities and powers”. The word “spoiled” comes from the Greek word apekduomai, meaning “to strip off completely.” Christ publicly stripped the powers of darkness of their authority over the believer. This means the believer is not trying to become victorious. He is learning to walk in the victory already secured in Christ.
Even in the Old Testament, God always wanted His people to understand that victory came from Him. Before David faced Goliath, victory had already been established in his heart through revelation. While others saw a giant, David saw a defeated uncircumcised Philistine standing against covenant. Believers today must also learn to see through the eyes of redemption. Your challenges may look big physically, emotionally, financially, or spiritually but Christ’s victory is bigger.
The Christian life is not a life of defeat management. It is a life of reigning through grace. Romans 5:17 says we shall “reign in life” through Jesus Christ. The word “reign” speaks of kingly dominion. In Christ, we have authority over fear, sin, condemnation, and the operations of darkness. Victory begins with revelation. When you know what Christ has done, your faith rises to walk in it.
INSTRUCTION: Stop speaking like a defeated person. Spend time meditating on scriptures that reveal your identity and victory in Christ.
CONFESSION: I declare that I walk in the victory of Christ. Sin has no dominion over me. Fear has no hold over me. Through Jesus Christ, I reign in life, overcome the enemy, and manifest the triumph of redemption daily. Amen.
