LIVING THE LIFE OF HONOUR AS A BELIEVER (13)

“Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.” – Romans 12:9-13

LIGHT FOR NOW: Honour on it’s on is faith in action.

In the course of this study, we began observing the issue in Jesus’ hometown in Mark’s synoptic (Mark 6:1-6) which resulted in Jesus not being able to do mighty works in his hometown. And we came to see clearly that the issue was dishonour. And thus, we came to safely deduce that an attitude of dishonour can hinder God’s power. So the issue in Jesus’ hometown was the issue of familiarity, and this familiarity resulted in offence. However, those who received earlier in the previous chapter (chapter 5) saw and received Him as Jesus the healer and not as a carpenter, the son of Mary. For instance, observe the words concerning the woman with the issue of blood in verse 27 and 28 of Mark 5, it reads “When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole”. These words (from the woman with the issue of blood) cannot be the word of someone who is living in offence or in dishonour. She did not see Jesus as a carpenter because if she did, she would have restrained God’s healing power.

So, God’s power will not move or be in demonstration in the atmosphere of dishonour. Meaning, the atmosphere of dishonour is a hindrance to God’s power.
Notice that Mark in the above text with reference to the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:27-28) documented the fact that she heard of Jesus. So the question now is, what could she have heard about Jesus? Acts 2:22 and Acts 10:37-38 will bring this to the spotlight, they read “Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know” (Acts 2:22). “That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him” (Acts 10:37-38). So the woman with the issue of blood must have heard of this; she must have heard of Jesus, God’s anointed; how that miraculous things were done through his hands. Whether she knew if Jesus was a carpenter or not, but that was not her concern, she saw Jesus as God’s anointed; she saw Jesus in his office and thus, God’s power flowed towards her. Hallelujah!

INSTRUCTION: Don’t let in dishonour into your life.

PRAYER: I declare by faith that my attitude in my local church does not restrain God’s power but rather boost it in Jesus name, Amen.
