GOSPEL MISSIONS (1)

“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus”

 Philemon 1:6.

LIGHT FOR NOW: Salvation is God’s solution to man in darkness.

The Amplified version of the above text puts it this way: “(And I Pray) that the participation in and sharing of your faith may produce and promote full recognition and appreciation and understanding and precise knowledge of every good (thing) that is ours in (our identification with) Christ Jesus (and unto His glory)”. If you observe from the Amplified version of the Bible, the phrase “sharing of your faith” was used. Thus, this implies that the more of the word of God one appreciates, the more effective one will be in sharing his faith. The word acknowledge in our theme text in the Greek Lexicon was translated from the word “epignosis”; which implies precise, accurate and comprehensive knowledge. So, in sharing one’s faith, precise knowledge of all that the believer is in Christ, will play a vital role. Hence, Apostle Peter would say, “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear’’   (I Peter 3:15). Peter in context says ‘’be ready  always to give an answer to every man…”; the Bible teacher must be able to present the message in such a way that he answers questions and clear doubts in people’s minds rather than creating confusion and contentions.

Upon salvation, comes the ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, which entails spreading the knowledge of God. Once a man is born again, he has received eternal life after which there is a responsibility to spread the knowledge of Jesus Christ. Every believer and every local church ought to be fully involved in missions (evangelism). There is a common assertion by people that everybody knows Jesus, but this is largely untrue. And since we know that a lot of people out there do not know Jesus – they are not born again! it is our responsibility to take the message of salvation to them. ‘’So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also’’ (Romans 1:15). The word “preach’ was translated from the Greek word “keruso” which implies to herald, to announce. And in this context, it would imply to herald the gospel.  “Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the Savor of his knowledge by us in every place”.    (2 Corinthians 2:14). The word ‘savour’ relates with fragrance which implies the need for a spread. For men to perceive what is being communicated, it cannot remain in our minds. There’s a need to “go”, because that is where the effectiveness is seen. It is of utmost importance for the preacher of the message to know what he has been sent to communicate. The gospel must not be innovated upon neither should it be subjected to human opinion. The message is simple; it is the message of love. How that Christ died for our sins, he was buried and he rose again the third day according to scriptures (I Corinth. 15:1-4).
