“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” Romans 1:16
LIGHT FOR NOW: The gospel is for all and not for some.
The gospel is the message of Christ. It has to do with the resurrection of Christ from the dead. The emphasis of the gospel is on Christ and not on material things. The gospel must be preached from the scriptures and not from personal experience. Jesus is the focus of the scriptures. The gospel is not in excellence of speech. It is important that the believer understands what the gospel is so that he will be able to discern what the gospel is not. The synoptic were about the earthly life of Jesus: what He said, what He did, what others said about Him. In the synoptic, faith was for things and not in Christ. It therefore had no power or weight to bring salvation to man. For the message to be the gospel, it must be relevant to all. It must be able to solve the needs of every man. The common identity of every man is sin and all is in need of salvation. Therefore, the gospel is for all and not for some.
The gospel is what supplies faith for salvation. The gospel must be announced or preached in order to bring faith for salvation. The hearing of the gospel is the hearing of faith. The gospel was God’s promise to man. The Old Testament saints had faith in Christ. This promise was fulfilled in the New Testament. Christ is the New Testament. It is the rejection of the gospel that kills a man and not sin. Sin no longer has the power to judge a man. Sin has been taken care of by the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Christ.
