“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” Romans 1:16
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is the subject matter of the gospel.
The gathering of believers in the church should be in pursuit of the truth of God’s word. The totality of God’s truth is summarized in a person – Christ. Jesus is God’s truth revealed. Any church whose message is not centered on Christ is not the church of Christ. The message of any messenger of Christ must be Christ-centered. Apostle Paul in his epistles to the church in Corinth emphasizes that the gospel is focused or centered on and about a person and that personality is Christ. The gospel is not emotional. The Gospel of Christ must speak about Christ in line with the scriptures. The Gospel is not about what we can do or have done but about what Christ has done. Justification is not based on what we can do but by the faith of Christ. Jesus is the subject matter of the gospel.
For men to be saved, Jesus must be the message. The gospel of Christ you understand determines how much you grow. The gospel was available even in the Old Testament and was believed. The Bible in Galatians 3 verse 8 says ‘’And the scripture, forseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached the gospel unto Abraham, saying, in thee shall all nations be blessed’’. It is the gospel that unites both the Jews and the Gentiles. Ephesians chapter 3 verse 6 reads, ‘’that the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel’’. God communicates to us through Christ. To know God, you must know Christ. A man is saved based on the gospel preached to him. No man is saved outside the gospel.
