“And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” – Genesis 1:26-28.
LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s plan for the man of Genesis 2:7 was for him to be in the man of Genesis 1:26-28.
It is clear from the overwhelming evidences in previous study that the image of God is not Adam (the first man/Adam) but Jesus (the last man/Adam). There is no verse of scripture in the epistle that suggests that Adam is the image of God. If Adam werethe image of God, then that dominion and authority we thought Adam had and later lost to Satan when he fell, would not have been lost in the first place. Hence, he never had that authority and dominion in the first place. This is because the authority and dominion is in the image of God. Hence, as the study progresses, we will see that the believer’s authority is a fact of the life of God (eternal life) we have received of Him. So Adam wouldn’t have had that dominion and later lose it, because that dominion is in the eternal life received by faith in Christ. Meaning if that dominion is in that life (eternal life), then that dominion or authority once received cannot be lost because the nature of God’s life is eternal; and eternal life means it cannot be lost.
That dominion is in the image of God, and Adam wasn’t in the image of God. Adam was made a living soul. Living soul does not mean image of God, living soul means man is of the earth; living soul communicates man’s terrestrial composition or make up, that is, man was made of the dust of the ground. So he (Adam) wasn’t in the image of God, he never had that dominion, but God’s plan for him (Adam) was for him to be in the image of God and occupy that dominion. Who is the image of God? The answer is Jesus. So what was God’s plan for the man of Genesis 2:7? God’s plan for the man of Genesis 2:7 was for him to be in the man of Genesis 1:26-28; that is for him to be in the image of God, which is for him to be in Christ.
