“And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” – Genesis 1:26-28.
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus is male and female
We have come to see clearly that the man who is the image of God and occupies the authority and dominion of the Father is the person of Jesus (the last man/Adam). God’s plan for the man of Genesis 2:7 was for him to be in the man of Genesis 1:26-28, that is for him to be in the image and dominion of God which is in Christ. In other words, Adam was not in dominion and authority but the dominion and authority will be offered to him. Adam was not the image of God, but he was offered the plan to be in the image of God. In other words, Genesis 1:26-28 shows us that the plan of God for man in Genesis 2:7 was for him to be in his image and likeness and to have dominion and authority. Now a question that may come into the minds of many as touching Genesis 1:26-28 is that; if the man (Adam) who is the image of God in Genesis 1:26-28 is Jesus, then how come verse 27 says male and female? It’s not difficult to understand: Remember man (Adam in Hebrews) speaks of humanity (male and female). Don’t forget that Jesus (the last Adam/man in Genesis 1:26-28) represents a race, mankind (male and female).
In other words, Genesis 1:26-28 has Christ as mankind in who is humanity or race of people (male and female) who are the image of God; who are in authority and dominion; this is the new creation. The new creation in Christ is male and female. Let’s use a simple analogy; you that is born again and a female gender, by your gender you are a female man in Christ; then you that is born again and a male gender, you are a male in Christ. So Jesus is male and female or better still male and female are in Christ (this is the new creation). In other words, the new creation/born again man is the man who is in the image of God and who is in authority and dominion, why? He is in Christ the image of God and the authority or dominion of God is in Christ. So, “male and female created he them” is to let us know that in Jesus is humanity of men (male and female) who are in the image of God and who occupy the authority and dominion of God in Christ. Hallelujah!
