“I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers, Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all saints; That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus ” – Philemon 1:4-6
LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer in Christ who is effective in knowledge is ineffective in ignorance.
The believer is the status of someone who is already in Christ. He is called a believer because he has believed; hence, he doesn’t have a faith problem. However, the extent to which your faith works will be determined by knowledge, how do we know, it’s knowledge? Paul now makes it clear in verse 6 “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ”. That word “communication” implies fellowship, participation or sharing. The word “effectual” here is the Greek word “energes” which means active or operative. The word “acknowledging” here is from the Greek word “epignosis” which means a precise, complete knowledge. Epignosis is a word used for a 360 degree understanding, which is an understanding that covers all angles. In essence, the sharing of the Christian faith is effective for a believer by precise knowledge. We have seen that a believer doesn’t have a love problem; neither does he have a faith problem. But a believer can have a knowledge problem. Ignorance is therefore disadvantageous to the believer. The realities of the believer’s identity cannot be maximized in ignorance. Ignorance of what God in Christ has made available for the believer is the reason the believer can live less of his realities.
Your faith thus cannot work beyond your understanding of your rights and privileges in Christ. Notice Paul says “by the acknowledging of every good thing in you in Christ Jesus”. So it is not one thing, but every good thing which in essence means these things we have in Christ are many; they are numerous. And the believer’s authority is one of these good things that we have in Christ. We can therefore at this point say that the believer does not have an authority problem, he can only have the problem of lack of knowledge of the authority he has in Christ Jesus.
INSTRUCTION:If there is anything to seek after, seek after knowledge.
PRAYER: Father, I declare that my desire, zeal and passion to know you more in knowing your word stirs up like never before, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: The degree to which you stay in ignorance is the degree to which you are ineffective in your Christian walk.
