“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” – Isaiah 53:3-7
LIGHT FOR NOW: Contained in Genesis 1:1-3 is the revelation of what Jesus did for mankind in prophetic utterance.
Now, from our studies so far, we have seen from overwhelming evidences in the body of scriptures that Jesus is being referred to as the light and thus, He was contained metaphorically in Genesis 1:3 as documented by Moses. Also, by this, we have also seen that salvation will be thus implied because the utterance in Genesis 1:3 is a revelation of God’s light shining in the hearts of men and that is salvation. Now, how does this understanding unveil the previous verses so that we can get the wholesome understanding of these three verses? Now in verse 3 of Genesis 1 is a spiritual truth which is salvation, then without doubt, verses 1 and 2 must be spiritually discerned because they obviously will also be spiritual truths. So, let’s see this; recall in 2Corinthians 4:6, the light will shine in men’s heart. Also, recall that the light is the light of life or life is in this light (John 8:12). Keep these two facts in mind as we flip to John 1 where John in his synoptic picks up Genesis 1 and unveils the truth in it, it reads “In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:1-5). Clearly, John is explaining Genesis 1:1-3 here. Notice from his words that life was in Him (that is the word who is Christ) and this life that was in him was the light of men. So, again we see life in the light or light in the life and we also see men (the life was the light of men). And this light shines in darkness and darkness could not withstand it. Let’s see what this will unveil to us in our subsequent studies. Hallelujah!
