“Every good and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures” – James 1:17-18
LIGHT FOR NOW: You are a son of God because you are born of God.
Having seen from our previous studies that the believer by birth or parentage is a child of God, and more so a son of God in that, what God did in Christ now becomes his inheritance, ownership or his possession as a child of God, let us now see overwhelming evidences from scriptures that buttress the fact that the believer is a son of God. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in his name” (John 1:12). “For as many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father” (Romans 8:14-15).
“Behold what manner of love the father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth not us because it knew not him. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:1-2). “ For it became him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons into glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings” (Hebrews 2:10).
The above overwhelming evidences from the above reference texts buttresses the fact that the born again man is a son of God. Recall, we are sons of God because we are children of God. That is, it is because we are born of God, that what God did for us in Christ now becomes our inheritance; possession or ownership.
Therefore, the qualification for this inheritance is because we are born of God. Recall that in our previous study, we saw that this inheritance or possessions we have as sons of God are spiritual realities. Paul’s words in Ephesians 1:7 was a perfect example for us and moreover the sermon in Acts 26:18 better puts Ephesians 1:7 in the spotlight for us as we saw in the previous study. Therefore, the believer’s inheritance or possessions in Christ are all spiritual realities; redemption and forgiveness of sins is a perfect example as we saw in the previous study. Other examples include righteousness by faith, justification, holiness, etc. This shows us why Peter in his 1st Epistle (1 Peter 1:4) alludes that the inheritance we have is incorruptible; it is undefiled and it does not fade away.
INSTRUCTION: You are a son of God. Think and act like one.
PRAYER: Thank you lord for the reality of my sonship in you. My gaze is continually fixed on this spiritual reality like never before, in Jesus name, Amen.
QUOTE: In the resurrection of Jesus was the mass production of sons.
