“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures – James 1:17-18.
LIGHT FOR NOW: The beauty of the resurrection is the Father’s family.
Clearly, it is seen in the course of our previous studies on this subject that a man becomes part of the family of God by faith in Christ. And thus faith in Christ makes a man a child of God: therefore, when the born again man calls God Father, that declaration implies he is a child of God. Thus, God is our Father and we are His children! Don’t forget, when “child of God” or “children of God” is implied, it is in reference to our birth; God begot us. Hence, we are called children of God by birth for because we are born of God.
Furthermore, when we call God Father, what is also implied is that we are His sons. (We are sons of God). In other words, He (God) is our Father and we are His sons! Same way we are God’s children by birth, we are God’s sons (sons of God) by inheritance. They both (children of God; sons of God) deals or speaks of a relationship. Observe the difference below:
• Children of God deals with our birth or parentage.
• Sons of God deals with our inheritance as children of God.
In other words, because of our birth or parentage as children of God, we now have an inheritance and by having an inheritance we, children of God are being referred to as sons of God. Now, the question that comes to the fore is – what is that inheritance we have as sons of God? The inheritance we have as sons of God is all that Christ had accomplished for us in His finished work. That is our inheritance are the spiritual realities we have in Christ, that is, all that God has done for us in Christ (spiritual realities) becomes our possession or inheritance by faith in Christ (this is why we are called sons of God). Let us clarify this by observing one of this inheritance we have as sons which will further show to us that the inheritance of the believer in Christ are spiritual realities. Paul’s word in Ephesians 1:7 is a perfect example, it reads “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace”. From the foregoing verse, we can see that one of our inheritance in Christ is the forgiveness of sins and this is just one of the many blessings of being a child of God.
INSTRUCTION: Know your privileges in Christ as a child of God.
PRAYER: I pray that the eyes of my understanding be enlightened that I may know what the hope of His calling is, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.
