“Giving thanks unto the father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light. Who had delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son” – Colossians 1:12-14
LIGHT FOR NOW: You do not get born again and look for deliverance.
It is vital to note that some of the practices going on in churches today are due to lack of understanding of scriptural text. It is a lack of understanding that makes some folks thinksthat the believer (the man in Christ, the man indwelt by the spirit; the man who is the abode of God and dwelling place of God) needs deliverance. This is because they do not even understand what the word deliverance means. Notice, Apostle Paul in Colossians 1:12-14 explained deliverance as the forgiveness of sins. The word, ‘forgiveness’ was translated from the Greek word ‘aphesis’; it implies a release from bondage of wrong (iniquity). This deliverance is preached. It happens by believing that Jesus Christ died for sins. The words of Jesus in Luke 4:18-19 brings clarity to this fact; “the spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sights to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to declare the acceptable year of the Lord”.
Let’s examine Isaiah’s word ‘The spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of prison to them that are bound. To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all that mourn” (Isaiah 61:1-2). Now observe in Luke’s account that Jesusspoke on preaching. In verse 18 and 19, the word, ‘preach’ was used three times. The word, ‘preach’ implies to announce or proclaim good news. The emphasis on deliverance as used by Jesus was on preaching. Deliverance therefore is a message; it is the goodnews of the gospel itself. Meaning the preaching of the gospel is the preaching of deliverance. And when this message is believed, the man who believes is delivered, his sins are forgiven. Deliverance is the forgiveness of sins.
INSTRUCTION: You don’t need deliverance. You are delivered when you believe.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the forgiveness of sins which I have as a possession in Christ Jesus, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: Deliverance is not prayed; it is preached.
