“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” – 1Corinthians 12:27
LIGHT FOR NOW: The divine nature is never given for isolation but for participation. Every believer shares the life of Christ and is joined to every other believer as one body.
One of the beautiful realities of the divine nature is that it not only unites us with Christ, but it also unites us with one another. The Christian life was never designed to be lived in isolation. God does not merely save individuals.; He forms a family; He builds a body. Paul writes: “Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular”. Notice the first word: “Now”. This is not a future promise; it is a present reality.
Every believer has become a living member of Christ’s body; the Head is Christ; the body is His Church. The life flowing through the Head is the same life flowing through every member. This is possible because every believer partakes of the same divine nature. Paul uses the human body as an illustration. The eye cannot exist independently of the body; neither can the hand; nor the foot.
Every member is different, yet every member shares the same life. Likewise, believers have different gifts, different callings, different responsibilities; but they all possess one Lord, one Spirit, one faith, one life. The divine nature removes every basis for spiritual pride. No believer can claim superiority over another because the life we possess is not self-produced; it is received by grace. At the same time, it removes every feeling of inferiority. No member of Christ’s body is insignificant. Every believer has value; every believer has purpose; every believer has been placed by God exactly where He desires.
This truth should transform how we relate to one another. When we love fellow believers, we honour Christ. When we serve one another, we serve Christ. When we strengthen another believer, we strengthen Christ’s body. Conversely, when believers harbour bitterness, division, jealousy, or unforgiveness, they act contrary to the very nature they have received. The divine nature always seeks unity because it proceeds from the God who is One. This is why Paul repeatedly exhorted believers to maintain “the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
Notice that we are not commanded to create unity. The Holy Spirit has already created it through the new birth. Our responsibility is to preserve it through humility, love, patience, and forgiveness. This also reminds us that no believer possesses every spiritual gift. God intentionally distributes gifts throughout the body so that believers learn to depend upon one another. Just as the human body functions through cooperation, the body of Christ functions through mutual love and service. The hand does not compete with the eye; the ear does not envy the foot. Each member rejoices in the grace given to the others because all share the same life.
As partakers of the divine nature, we must never become isolated Christians. We are called to worship together, grow together, serve together, pray together, and build one another up in love. The divine life within us naturally draws us into fellowship because it is the life of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; a life of perfect communion. Today, remember that you are not merely connected to Christ. You are also connected to every person who has been born of God. Together, we form one body, sharing one life, revealing one Lord to the world. Hallelujah!
INSTRUCTION: Look for an opportunity today to encourage, pray for, or serve another believer. Let the divine nature within you strengthen the body of Christ through love.
CONFESSION: Father, thank You for making me a member of the body of Christ. Help me to value, love, and serve my fellow believers with humility and sincerity. Let the unity of Your Spirit be evident in my relationships, and may my life contribute to the strengthening of Your Church, in Jesus’ name, Amen. Glory!
