THE FATHER’S LOVE (PART 2)

“The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee” – Jeremiah 31:3

LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s love is not temporary, seasonal, or dependent on human consistency. The Father’s love is everlasting because it flows from His unchanging nature.

One of the deepest fears hidden in the human heart is the fear of rejection. Many people spend their lives trying to earn acceptance, approval, and affection. Some seek it through achievements, others through relationships, while others seek it through religion. Yet scripture reveals a beautiful truth: Before we ever sought God, His love was already reaching toward us. The Lord says through Jeremiah: “I have loved thee with an everlasting love…” The word “everlasting” comes from the Hebrew word “olam”, which speaks of that which stretches beyond visible horizons, without beginning or end from man’s perspective. This means the Father’s love cannot be measured merely by time. It existed before you were born. It existed before your successes. It existed before your failures. Long before you ever knew His name, His heart was already inclined toward you. This is one of the major differences between divine love and human love.
Human love often changes. It may grow stronger. It may grow weaker. It may be influenced by circumstances. But God’s love is anchored in His own character. Since God does not change, His love does not change. Malachi 3:6 says: “For I am the LORD, I change not…” The believer’s confidence therefore rests not in his ability to hold onto God, but in God’s commitment to hold onto him. This does not encourage carelessness or compromise. Rather, it creates security in relationship. A child who knows he is loved grows differently from a child constantly afraid of rejection. Likewise, believers who understand the Father’s love develop greater confidence, trust, and intimacy with God. The Lord continues: “…therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee”. The word “lovingkindness” comes from the Hebrew word “hesed”, one of the richest words in the Old Testament. It speaks of covenant love, loyal mercy, steadfast affection, and unfailing kindness. It is the kind of love that refuses to abandon its object. This reveals something powerful: God does not draw people through manipulation, intimidation, or cruelty. He draws through love.
Many believers were first introduced to God through fear of judgment, but lasting intimacy grows through revelation of His love. Jesus Himself said: “And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me”. The cross became the ultimate display of the Father’s drawing love. At Calvary, God demonstrated publicly what had always existed in His heart. The Father was not reluctantly saving humanity. He was lovingly pursuing humanity. One of the enemy’s greatest strategies is to convince believers that God’s love fluctuates according to performance. When they succeed, they feel loved. When they fail, they feel rejected. But scripture teaches otherwise. The cross settled forever the question of whether God loves us. His love is not proven by favorable circumstances alone. It is proven by Jesus Christ.
Even when believers stumble, the Father’s heart remains open toward repentance and restoration. Like the father of the prodigal son, He stands ready to receive those who return. The Father’s love is not fragile.
• It is steadfast.
• It is enduring.
• It is everlasting.
And because His love is everlasting, believers can walk through every season of life with confidence that they are never beyond His reach.

INSTRUCTION: Reject every lie that tells you God’s love depends on your performance. Spend time thanking Him for His unchanging and everlasting love.

CONFESSION/PRAYER: Father, thank You for loving me with an everlasting love. Thank You that Your affection toward me is rooted in Your nature and not in my performance. Help me to rest confidently in Your love and walk daily in intimate fellowship with You. Amen.
