“But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” – 1Peter 1:15–16
LIGHT FOR NOW: The ultimate expression of the divine nature is a life that reflects the character of the God who has given us His life. We do not walk holiness to become His children; we walk holiness because we already belong to Him.
As we come to the conclusion of this devotional journey on “PARTAKERS OF THE DIVINE NATURE,” we arrive at one of the greatest purposes of redemption: To reveal God’s character through His people. Peter writes: “But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation”. The foundation of holiness is not human effort; it is God’s nature. Peter begins with: “As he which hath called you is holy…” Everything begins with God. He is the standard. He is the source. He is the pattern.
The believer’s holiness is not an attempt to imitate God from a distance. It is the expression of God’s life already placed within us. This is the beauty of the divine nature. God does not merely tell us what He desires us to become. He gives us His own life so that His character can be expressed through us. The word “holy” comes from the Greek word hagios, meaning set apart, consecrated, belonging to God, and dedicated to His purposes. Holiness is first about belonging before it is about behaviour. We are holy because we belong to God. And because we belong to Him, our lives increasingly reflect His character.
Peter says: “In all manner of conversation”. The word “conversation” in the King James Version refers to one’s conduct, lifestyle, or manner of living. In other words, holiness is not limited to religious moments. It affects everything; our thoughts, our words, our relationships, our decisions, our attitudes, our private lives, our public lives. The divine nature desires expression in every area. This is why Christianity cannot be reduced to external practices. A person may change behaviour temporarily without experiencing inward transformation. But when God’s nature is received, transformation begins from within and eventually affects everything outwardly.
Peter then quotes God’s own declaration: “Be ye holy; for I am holy”. This command is not a demand without provision. The God who calls us to holiness is the God who gives us His Spirit. He does not simply set a standard before us. He supplies the life necessary to walk in that standard. This is the difference between the law and grace. The law revealed God’s holy standard but could not impart the life necessary to fulfil it. Grace not only reveals God’s holiness; it gives us God’s life. The believer now has the ability to walk in agreement with God’s character because he possesses God’s nature.
This entire journey has shown us that being a partaker of the divine nature affects every aspect of our existence. We have received God’s life. We have become His children. We are united with Christ. We are indwelt by His Spirit. We are transformed into His image. We are empowered to walk in victory. We are called to express His love. We are created as a new creation. And ultimately, we are destined to reveal His glory. The divine nature is not merely a doctrine to memorize; it is a reality to live; it is Christ in us. It is the Holy Spirit working through us. It is the Father’s character being displayed in our daily lives.
The world should not only hear that God is good. They should see His goodness through His people. They should not only hear that God is love. They should encounter His love through believers. They should not only hear that Christ saves. They should witness the transformation that His life produces. Therefore, as we close this month’s devotional, remember: You are not merely someone who has received blessings from God. You are someone who has received the life of God. You are a carrier of His presence; a reflection of His character, a testimony of His grace, a partaker of the divine nature.
Walk in this reality. Live from this identity. And allow the God who lives within you to be seen through you. Hallelujah!
