“Christ in you, the hope of glory” – Colossians 1:27
LIGHT FOR NOW: The Christian life is not merely about having Christ as a Saviour outside of us; it is the astonishing reality of Christ dwelling within us. The Gospel does not only bring us to Christ; it brings Christ into us.
There is a mystery at the heart of Christianity that is so profound that Paul called it “the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations”. Then he revealed it: “Christ in you, the hope of glory”. Think about those three words: Christ in you. Not merely Christ for you. Not merely Christ with you. But Christ in you. This is the wonder of the New Covenant. God’s ultimate intention in salvation was not simply to forgive sinners and leave them as they were. He desired to make them His dwelling place. Under the Old Covenant, God’s presence was associated with a physical sanctuary. The glory descended upon the tabernacle; the presence filled the temple. But in the New Covenant, something far greater has happened. God has made the believer His habitation.
Paul declares: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” The temple is no longer primarily a building. The believer is God’s temple. This changes everything. It means Christianity is not fundamentally about visiting God’s presence. It is about carrying God’s presence. It is not merely about coming to a place where God is. It is about becoming a person in whom God dwells. The Holy Spirit has made the believer His permanent residence. This is why the Christian life cannot be reduced to external religion. Religion says, “Go somewhere to meet God”. The Gospel says, “God has come to live in you”. This does not mean the believer becomes God. We remain creatures; He remains the Creator. But we genuinely participate in His life through union with Christ and the indwelling Holy Spirit. This is what makes the Christian life supernatural.
The believer possesses something that education cannot produce. Something morality cannot manufacture. Something human discipline cannot create. The life of Christ within. Paul therefore calls Christ in us “the hope of glory”. The word “hope” in Scripture is not uncertain wishing. It speaks of confident expectation. And “glory” speaks of the ultimate manifestation of God’s presence and purpose. The Christ who lives in you is the guarantee that God’s purpose for your life will reach its appointed fullness. You are not trying to manufacture glory from your own strength. You carry within you the One who is Himself the Lord of glory. This means that your ordinary life has become sacred ground.
Your body matters. Your thoughts matter. Your words matter. Your decisions matter. Because the One who lives in you is holy. The presence of Christ within you is not merely a theological statement. It is the foundation of your identity. When you feel weak, remember, Christ is in you. When you feel inadequate, Christ is in you. When you face temptation, Christ is in you. When you encounter impossible circumstances, Christ is in you. The answer is not always to look inward at your own strength. Sometimes the greatest revelation is to look inward and remember Who lives there. The Christian does not face life alone. The life of Christ has become his life-source. His wisdom is available. His strength is available. His love is available. His character is available. His presence is available. So as this new month begins, let this be your first revelation: You are not empty. You are not abandoned. You are not spiritually powerless. You are the dwelling place of God. Christ is in you. And because Christ is in you, the possibilities of divine life are greater than the limitations of your humanity. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: Throughout today, consciously remind yourself: “Christ is in me”. Let this truth influence your thoughts, your confidence, your conduct, and your response to every circumstance.
CONFESSION/PRAYER: Father, thank You for the mystery and privilege of Christ dwelling in me. I acknowledge that I am Your temple and the habitation of Your Spirit. Help me to live every moment conscious of Christ in me. Let His wisdom, strength, love, and character be expressed through my life. May Christ in me become evident to everyone I encounter, in Jesus Name. Amen.
