“But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” – 1 Corinthians 15:57
LIGHT FOR NOW: The believer’s entire journey of victory begins and ends with Jesus Christ. He is the source, sustainer, and fullness of our triumph.
As we conclude this journey on “Walking in Victory,” one truth must remain firmly established within our hearts: the believer’s victory is completely rooted in Christ. Paul says: “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ”. Notice again that victory is not self-produced. It is given. The word “giveth” reveals continuous supply. This means the believer’s victory is not sustained by occasional human effort but by continual dependence upon Christ.
From the beginning of this devotional series, we have seen repeatedly that victory is not merely a future promise waiting in heaven. It is a present reality flowing from redemption. Through Christ, we overcome the world, we overcome fear, we overcome condemnation, we overcome the flesh, we overcome spiritual warfare, we overcome discouragement and we overcome through faith. Yet all these victories flow from one central truth: Jesus already conquered. At the cross, sin was judged; at the resurrection, death was defeated. Through His ascension, Christ was exalted above every principality and power.
This is why Paul says in Colossians 2:15 that Jesus “spoiled principalities and powers”. The believer does not stand before a defeated Savior. He stands united with the risen Christ. This is the beauty of Christianity; our confidence is not in ourselves but in Him. Many believers struggle because they become overly conscious of personal weakness while neglecting the greatness of Christ. Yes, human weakness exists. Yes, difficult seasons come. Yes, spiritual battles are real. But Christ remains greater than them all. This is why believers must remain rooted continually in the gospel.
The Christian life never advances beyond dependence on Jesus. Prayer without Christ becomes empty religion. Doctrine without Christ becomes intellectual pride. Service without Christ becomes exhaustion. Victory without Christ becomes impossible. Jesus Himself said: “Without me ye can do nothing”. The believer was never designed to live independently from Christ. This is why abiding matters deeply. John 15 repeatedly emphasizes abiding in Him. The word “abide” means to remain, continue, dwell, or stay connected continually.
A branch disconnected from the vine loses life and fruitfulness. Likewise, believers disconnected from intimate fellowship with Christ gradually lose spiritual strength and sensitivity. Victory is sustained through abiding. As believers continue walking with God, they gradually discover that true victory is deeper than external success alone. True victory is knowing Christ deeply; remaining faithful through every season; walking in holiness; living by faith; manifesting love; maintaining peace and finishing faithfully. At the center of it all is Jesus. He is the believer’s righteousness. He is the believer’s wisdom. He is the believer’s peace. He is the believer’s strength. He is the believer’s victory. And because He lives, believers can walk boldly every day knowing that no darkness, trial, or opposition can separate them from His triumph. Victory is not merely a message believers preach. Victory is the life believers now possess in Christ.
INSTRUCTION: Remain rooted in fellowship with Jesus daily. Never allow spiritual activity replace genuine intimacy with Christ.
PRAYER: Jesus Christ is my victory. My life is rooted in Him, sustained by Him, and strengthened through Him. I walk daily in faith, righteousness, peace, endurance, holiness, and triumph through the finished work of Christ. Amen.
