WALKING IN VICTORY (24)

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts…” – Colossians 3:15

LIGHT FOR NOW: One of the greatest evidences of spiritual victory is inward peace even in the midst of outward storms.

The life of victory in Christ is not merely about overcoming external battles; it is also about possessing inward stability. Many people appear successful outwardly yet remain internally troubled, fearful, anxious, and restless. But God desires that believers live with a peace rooted beyond circumstances. Paul says: “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts…” The word “peace” comes from the Greek word eirene, which speaks of wholeness, rest, harmony, inward tranquility, and well-being. This peace is not merely the absence of problems. It is the inward calm produced by confidence in God. Jesus said in John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you…”
Notice Jesus did not offer temporary emotional comfort like the world gives. He offered His own peace. The world’s peace depends on favorable situations; God’s peace remains even during difficult seasons. This is why believers can remain inwardly stable while facing outward challenges. Paul then says: “…let the peace of God rule in your hearts”. The word “rule” comes from the Greek word brabeuo, which was used for an umpire or judge deciding outcomes in athletic contests. This means the peace of God should become the governing authority in the believer’s heart. Before making decisions, responding emotionally, or reacting impulsively, believers must learn to pay attention to the inward witness of peace.

One major problem many believers face is allowing fear, anxiety, and pressure governs their hearts instead of God’s peace. Fear clouds discernment, anxiety weakens faith, restlessness drains spiritual strength. But peace stabilizes the believer inwardly. Isaiah 26:3 says: “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee…” Notice, peace is connected to focus. When the believer’s attention remains fixed on God’s character and promises, peace increases. But when focus becomes consumed by problems, fear begins to grow. This is why prayer is important. Philippians 4:6-7 says: “Be careful for nothing…” The word “careful” there refers to anxious worry. Paul then instructs believers to bring everything before God in prayer with thanksgiving. What happens afterward?
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”. The word “keep” there is a military term referring to guarding or protecting. This means God’s peace functions like a spiritual guard over the believer’s heart and mind. The enemy constantly seeks to disturb believers through fear, confusion, pressure, and discouragement because troubled hearts struggle to hear God clearly. But believers who cultivate fellowship with God develop inward stability. Jesus slept during a storm while the disciples panicked around Him. Why? This is because external storms do not have to produce internal chaos. Victory is not merely shouting against the devil. Sometimes victory is maintaining peace while trusting God through difficult seasons. A heart ruled by God’s peace becomes difficult for fear to control.

INSTRUCTION: Refuse to allow anxiety and fear to dominate your thoughts. Bring every concern before God in prayer and deliberately meditate on His promises.

PRAYER: The peace of God rules in my heart and mind. I refuse fear, anxiety, confusion, and restlessness. My trust is in the Lord, and through Christ I walk daily in peace, stability, and victory. Amen.
