AUTHORITY IN THE NAME JESUS (12)

“And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” – Luke 10:17-20

LIGHT FOR NOW: What makes the name of Jesus authoritative is not the letter J-E-S-U-S but the office. This is what makes it authoritative.

Demons were subject to the seventy themselves through the name and Jesus told them why referring to what he gave to them before they went to preach; authority! Hence, they demonstrated authority in the name. “Name” describes a person’s fame, character, what you are known for. It is used to refer to your accomplishment. The name is an office, an accomplishment not letters. It speaks of something you have done, attained or accomplished. The name of Jesus speaks of his reputation; it speaks of his accomplishment. The name of Jesus simply refers to what he has done and accomplished. In the four gospels, they knew him as the one who was anointed. Observe Acts 10:36-27 “The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all). That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached”.

The term “published throughout” shows a name. hence, verse 38 of Acts 10 shows his name in the four gospels, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him”. His name in the four gospels had to do with his anointing. He is risen; hence, his name stems from that point of his resurrection. His reputation today is that he has been raised and he is at the right hand of God. Therefore, we don’t look at the man Jesus but see him in his office. The authority of the name Jesus is not in the label or letters J-E-S-U-S, but that authority is in the office. That office is the father’s right hand. The right hand of the father is the position of authority. Thus, the name of Jesus is not the label or letter but the authority of Jesus. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Give heed to your realities in God’s word.

CONFESSION: The eyes of my understanding are enlightened, in Jesus Name, Amen.

QUOTE: The name of Jesus is his accomplishment.
