“And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven” – Luke 10:17-20
LIGHT FOR NOW: The name of Jesus today speaks of the right hand of God; the place of position & authority.
It is evident that the seventy disciples had demons subjected to them through the name of Jesus and Jesus told them why by referring to what he gave to them before they went to preach; it is authority. The word “name” is descriptive of a person’s accomplishment or office; fame or character, not letters. The name of Jesus in the Four Gospels had to do with his anointing (Acts 10:36-38). He is risen; hence, his name today stems from that point of his resurrection. Jesus’ reputation today is that he has been raised and is at the right hand of God. Thus, we don’t look at the man Jesus but see him in his office.
Philippians 2:5-11 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who being in the form of God, though it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death on the cross. Wherefore God hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father”. He gave him a name; what kind of name? At the right hand of God he was given a name. The name he was given is the right hand of God. The name of Jesus in the four gospels is the anointing of the spirit, in the epistles; right hand of God. Name means authority. The name of Jesus is the authority of Jesus. When he rose, his name is the right hand; all authority that ever existed is given to him. Glory!
INSTRUCTION: You have Jesus’ name, use it.
CONFESSION: I have authority in Christ. Therefore, I rule and reign over powers that be, in Jesus Name, Amen.
QUOTE: The authority of Jesus is the believers’ reality today.
