PLACE PREMIUM VALUE ON KNOWLEDGE (5)

“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” – Philemon 1:6

LIGHT FOR NOW: It is one thing to be saved, and another thing to know fully what it entails to be saved. Hence, after salvation, your greatest need is the knowledge of your salvation.

It has been a stated that your Christian walk will only be as effective to the degree of your knowledge and appreciation of the things that are available to you in Christ. It will be effective to the degree of knowing precisely what belongs to you in Christ; who you are, what you have and what you can do in Christ; your potentials, and capabilities or abilities in Christ. On this note, Paul in his epistle prayed knowledge based prayers for believers. In Ephesians 1:16-19, Paul has this to say “Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power”.

Observe:

  • The spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him (verse 17).
  • The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know.

The above two highlighted points reveals to us that the emphasis of this prayers for believers was on knowledge; them coming to knowledge of what avails to them in Christ. In Ephesians 3:14-19, Paul also says “For this cause I bow my knees unto the father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God”. Again, the focus here was on knowledge. Hence, at this point we can say that knowledge is the believer’s greatest need. Glory!

INSTRUCTION: Grow in knowledge.

CONFESSION: I declare that I consciously give myself to the knowledge of God’s word; I grow in knowledge, in Jesus Name.  Amen.

QUOTE: Knowledge is the believer’s greatest need after being saved.
