“That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus” – Philemon 1:6
LIGHT FOR NOW: Knowledge is the principal thing as far as the Christian walk or life is concerned.
It’s been clearly explained that the term “communication of thy faith” in the above text implies fellowship or participation of your faith. In simple terms, it refers to the way you live your life as a Christian, that is, your Christian walk. Hence, the use of the word “faith” here is in reference to the Christian life or walk. Recall, the word “acknowledging” here which is “epignosis” in the Greek refers to a comprehensive insight; exact, precise and accurate knowledge. The knowledge in Philemon 1:6 is defined:
- It’s not political knowledge.
- It’s not philosophical knowledge; that is, knowledge obtained from human philosophy.
- It’s not traditional knowledge.
- It is not scientific knowledge.
All the knowledge enumerated above is good for both the believers and the unbelievers, but none of them guarantees the believers’ spiritual growth or effectiveness in his Christian walk. There is only one knowledge that aids the believer’s spiritual growth; there is only one knowledge that is essential to Christian walk as a believer in Christ. The knowledge is the knowledge of Christ. In other words, the knowledge of who you are in Christ, what you have in Christ and what Christ can do through you is not in politics, human philosophy, human traditions and science. This knowledge is only in Christ, and it is the knowledge documented in the written word called the bible. The degree to which your Christian walk will be effective and active is to the degree of the knowledge of Christ you have, that is, the degree of the knowledge of what avails to you in Christ. The Christian walk becomes a victorious adventure when the believer is full of the knowledge of Christ; the knowledge of who he is in Christ, what he has in Christ and what Christ can do through him. You cannot neglect knowledge in your Christian walk and aim to be effective. Go after knowledge! Glory!
