“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” – Romans 8:29

LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s plan before the beginning of time was to save man.

“Proorizo” is the Greek word for predestination. It has two words “pro” which means “before” and “horizo” which means boundary; that means God has already mapped out boundaries or plans for the salvation of man. Predestination tells us that salvation is entirely due to God’s decree. An in-depth study of predestination would require us to look at areas like foreknowledge man’s will and how divinity interacts with humanity. However, foreknowledge is a part of God’s omniscience. God before creation had predetermined that man should be saved and translated from darkness to light. The love of God towards man is basically the motive for predestination. Paul in some Bible passages talks about predestination (2Thessalonians 2:13; Romans 8:28-29) and it is clearly stated that God’s choice of predestination is unconditional. Salvation and eternal life is God’s gift to man. If salvation is deserved, it therefore ceases to be a gift, and then it entirely becomes a reward. The character of salvation as a gift and the merciful provision of salvation are bound with the doctrine of God’s complete freedom in predestination. Our relationship with the sovereign God is a gift from God; we did nothing to deserve it. Jesus said to His disciples in John 15:16 “You didn’t choose me but I choose you”. God had chosen us from the beginning to be saved, justified and sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

A vivid example of God’s sovereignty in salvation is in the life of Paul. He was completely soaked in his prejudices. He wasn’t a bright prospect for conversion, but as a result of divine intervention he got converted and his body, spirit and soul saved. Predestination is comforting because it is a natural gift from God. People who believe and receive the gift of salvation, reconciliation, adoption and the indwelling of the spirit share in God’s inheritance in the saints in light. Note, the bible emphasize the doctrine of predestination, as such, believers ought to embrace it without hesitation for it is true and in it we have light.

INSTRUCTION: Align yourself with God’s Plan.

CONFESSION: I declare that my faith in God’s Plan for me is unwavering and i walk in that light, in Jesus Name, Amen.
