“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:9)
LIGHT FOR NOW: The Holy Spirit dwells in you.
In the New Testament, Apostle Paul speaking by the Spirit said, “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13); but how hard it is for some of us to comprehend the Spirit, working in and through us. It’s hard for many of us to become God-inside-minded, to always remind ourselves that we have Him in us and that we are in Him. And how slow we’ve been to realize that it is God’s ability that makes grace abound in and through us. “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you….”(2 Corinthians 9:8). We’re perfectly supplied by Him to the point of having all sufficiency in everything. “Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God” (2 Corinthians 3:5). We’re supposed to ignore our sense reasoning, and allow our recreated Spirit gain the right of way. Paul overwhelmingly walked in this understanding and desired the church to do same; hence, he prayed saying: “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us – ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power”(Ephesians 1:18-19).
At salvation, the Holy Spirit began His ministry in you; He isn’t nestling quietly in a corner inside you, but walking in you. The Bible says Christ Jesus gave Himself for us, that He might purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works (Titus 2:14). Good works are works of faith, righteousness wrought through you by the power of the Holy Spirit. The passion and zeal in you for good works are the result of the Spirit’s work in your life. The Bible says, “For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us…” (Ephesians 2:10 AMPC). That is why Paul said that our sufficiency is of God!
The preceding verse to our theme text says, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth” (Philippians 2:10). Paul here is teaching what Jesus earlier taught His disciples. “And this signs shall follow them that believe; IN MY NAME…”(Mark 16:17). More of this in our subsequent study. Glory!!!
