“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.” – Isaiah 60:1-5
LIGHT FOR NOW: Any text of scripture that has not been given proper observation in the place of reading cannot be properly interpreted in the place of interpretation.
Moses’ audience was definitely not thinking of skirt and trousers when this law was given. In the Old Testament by rule of systematic reading beginning from the very context of Deuteronomy 22, men wore skirt. Systematic and contextual reading of Deuteronomy 22:30 will demystify the opinion of that which pertaineth to a man will be trouser and that which pertaineth unto a woman will be a skirt, it reads “A man shall not take his father’s wife, nor discover his father’s skirt”. Notice, “father’s skirt” not mother’s skirt.
Pay attention as we read Ruth 3:8-9, “And it came to pass at midnight, that the man was afraid, and turned himself: and, behold, a woman lay at his feet. And he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth thine handmaid: spread therefore thy skirt over thine handmaid: for thou art a near kinsman”. Here, Ruth is asking a man to spread his skirt over her, which means the man was wearing a skirt. Hallelujah!
