“He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.” – James 1:18 NLT
LIGHT FOR NOW: Your standard of life is limited to your knowledge.
As Christians, our minds ought to be governed by the consciousness of our personality in Christ. We are supposed to see ourselves and also walk in the light of who God says we are in His word. Our theme text says we are born of God’s word, implying that we are exactly what the word says. But our minds ought to be trained by the same word to the point that, regardless of circumstances, we still stay in tune with the truth of our identity in Christ. Only in God’s word can we clearly see ourselves as God sees us. In His word we know that we are more than conquerors; we know for sure that, no weapon formed against us can prosper. Actually, all the promises of God fulfilled in Christ came alive in us when we became born again. Unfortunately, many believers are victims in life because of ignorance. And where the devil knows that you are ignorant, he swiftly takes advantage. Psalm 82:5 says, “They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course”. Imagine that you are aware that the forces of hell has no right to oppress, afflict or harm you; that no sickness could actually fasten itself to your body; that you have a life that’s incapable of failures, a life that can’t be destroyed or defeated. How would you live or how would that affect your mentality? Certainly, it’ll change your opinion about yourself. Where believers are not acquainted with these truths, they end up measuring their lives on the basis of the flesh; that is, what they perceive with their natural senses.
Actually, your standard of life is limited to your knowledge; having precise and accurate knowledge of God’s word will definitely make the difference in your life. No one ever lived beyond the realms of his knowledge. Our earlier referenced text says, “They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness….” This is why many believers are suffering and struggling in life; they are oblivious of who the new creation really is. But when the reality of the word dawns on you, you suddenly come to a place of absolute confidence, where you realize that circumstances doesn’t determine what happens with you. You’ll behave like Jesus, who had no sense of disadvantage while on earth. The believer is only able to relate with his inheritance in Christ, where he’s been taught to be conscious of who he is in Him. Therefore, after salvation, acquiring knowledge becomes imperative. We must be available to be taught and trained. That is why Galatians 4:1-2 says, “Now I say, that the heir, as so long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be the lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father”. The word “child” is the Greek word “nepios”, referring to an immature Christian. Living above the notions and viewpoints of this world would require that the believer becomes a part of a local church because that is the only place he can receive the kind of training he requires for his spiritual growth. A lot of believers are surprised that they are still struggling to live the way they ought to even after being born again as their ignorance is the devil’s advantage over them. When we grow, we have a change of mindset; we think God’s thoughts; God’s opinion and ideas dominates our minds; we see ourselves clearly as He sees us and equally live the way He wants us to live.
