“Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abidethfor ever.” – 1 Peter 1:23
LIGHT FOR NOW: The man in Christ is born again by the incorruptible seed or eternal word of God.
When we say something is incorruptible, it means it cannot be destroyed; and the word of God is described as incorruptible and it lives and abides forever. The man in Christ is born again by the incorruptible seed or sperm of God. When God, by His word gives birth to a person, the person will forever remain His child under all circumstances; God can never deny His seed; nothing can ever corrupt God’s DNA in the believer. At salvation, the man in Christ becomes incorruptible in his spirit; there’s nothing on earth, under the earth or in heaven that can make the believer corruptible. “And I give them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand” (John 10:28-29). This is an assurance that once you are born of God, you remain alive forever; nothing can kill you. Once a son, you remain a son forever; once you are saved you are saved forever. What we are made of is the seed of God. Spiritual birth is not change of behavior but it is an actual birth by God. There are things that can be changed by your will, for example your job, your friend, your country of residence, but you cannot change your parents by your will even if you deny them. The fact remains that you carry their DNA. God’s DNA in you is incorruptible; that’s what Jesus meant in John 3:6: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit”. So once God becomes your Father, he will forever remain your Father. This is eternal security in Christ. This is hyper good news. Post born again status therefore goes beyond the will of the man born of God.
Hence, assurance of salvation is the crux of the gospel; it is not like a passive thought, made to be like the toppings of an ice cream or teaser in a story or a side comment. Jesus taught it as having eternal life; Paul taught it as being “in Him”, sealed by His Spirit forever. James described it thus: without variableness, no shadow of turning, kinds of the best of his creatures. Jude said, He keeps you from falling and presents you blameless and faultless. The Hebrew writer calls it eternal salvation, redemption and inheritance. John in the Book of Revelation says the believer is washed, his name written in the book of life and overcome by the blood of the lamb. When God gives birth to you, you can never change Him as your Father. The life you received at salvation is called eternal life; eternal life cannot be killed or corrupted by any will of man. You have that life forever. Halleluiah!!
