“Giving thanks unto the father….who that delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear son” – Colossians 1:12-13
LIGHT FOR NOW: A believer is never without what to do and how to do it.
It’s very important for the believer to recognize his identity in Christ; he should be fully aware of who and who’s he is; reason being that we will only be as effective as we understand our placement in Christ. Our key scripture says that we’ve been delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of the son of His love. That’s where you are now! And becoming aware and walking in the consciousness of this truth is what makes us productive as Christians. Ephesians 5:8-9 says, “For ye were sometimes darkness but now are ye light in the lord: walk as children of light: for the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness…” implying that the believer is now light in him; the original of verse 9 is rendered “fruit of the light”. We have the fruit of the light, having been delivered from darkness and brought into the kingdom of His son. We have taken the identity of our new nation; it’s a kingdom of sons. 1 John 1:5 says, “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all”. Here, John is helping us to see a fundamental fact about God, there’s no darkness in Him at all; He is only light and this must certainly be seen in us His offspring. Believers are called light and light means direction, which means that we have since left the part of confusion. A believer is never without what to do and how to do it as he’s Spirit-guided. Hence, you’ve got to understand, recognize and live as one who knows that he’s been delivered from the domain of darkness and translated into God’s marvelous light. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” ;the word “wiles” is translated from the Greek word “methodeia,” which refers to trickery. Trickery is primarily defined as a verbal misrepresentation, that is, where something is said with the intention to mislead and take advantage of someone for some purpose. The devil is behind trickery.
A better expression than trickery, however, is “lying in wait”, used in Ephesians 4:14: “That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive”. This is “methodeia”: lying in wait for the purpose of deception. Satan’s modus operandi is based on deception with misrepresentations. Unwholesome teachings in our churches, such that doesn’t showcase Christ in His finished work constitute the devil’s biggest strategy to enforce this agenda and as a Christian, you shouldn’t be ignorant of this. Ephesians 5:6 says, “Let no man deceive you with vain words…” you ought to know and walk in God’s truth – His light. Jesus said, “… I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). His word illuminates your path and enlightens your mind such that you’re never deceived or in the dark.
