“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you” – 1Corinthians 3:16

LIGHT FOR NOW: God never leaves the believer at any time.

The believer in Christ must continually be reminded of who he is as the knowledge of his identity affects everything. That was the essence of Paul’s continuous emphasis to the church at Corinth with the same retort: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16).Key phrase – “Know ye not”; and seven times within four chapters, Paul makes this acclaim. Without a continuous reminder of this, most believers will end up misleading themselves. We hear some people sing songs like “Lord, prepare me a sanctuary”. They say so out of identity crisis, because God never leaves the believer at any point in time. “For he hath said I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5). God lives in us permanently. That was why while with His disciples, Jesus placed emphasis on accurate knowledge as we see in Matthew 16 where He asked them of their opinion about His identity. Their own identity was tied to His, hence any ignorance of the later will affect visibly and substantially the former. The unique fact is that, in the revelation of Christ is found that of the believer.

Apostle Paul emphatically affirmed the ultimate goal of the redemptive plan of God when he said, “… for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath saith, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and will be their God, and they shall be my people” (2 Corinthians 6:16). So God’s original plan has always been for Him to dwell in man and this became a reality in His resurrection. One would have to be born again first, born of the Spirit to be able house God; because God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must do so in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
