“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising. Lift up thine eyes round about, and see: all they gather themselves together, they come to thee: thy sons shall come from far, and thy daughters shall be nursed at thy side. Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.” – Isaiah 60:1-5
LIGHT FOR NOW: If the bible can be rightly interpreted, then it’s equally possible for it to be wrongly interpreted.
One of the aims in this study is to get us fully equipped and armed with the right tools as touching proper bible interpretation. Proper bible interpretation must be of utmost importance to a believer; this must be emphasized in the church world. It is so important that Paul in his letter to Timothy instructs him saying, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that need not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. Notice, he says “rightly dividing the word of truth”. In essence, this shows us that if the word of truth can be rightly divided, it then follows that there is a possibility for it to be wrongly divided.
Therefore, you cannot play down on proper bible interpretation, why? As we study through, you will discover that as we begin to apply the rules of bible study to our key text above, you will discover that the misconceptions and the ideas many have about this text or what they thought that this text meant is not what it is. Isaiah 60:1-5 is one of the texts that have been so wrongly interpreted in the church world. Soon, clarity is going to shine on us and certain facts will begin to come to the spotlight.
As the study advances, some lies and misconceptions that many have about how the bible ought to be interpreted will be exposed; misconceptions like:
• A bible verse or text may not mean to me what it means to you based on our situations and circumstances.
• Bible interpretation is only based on the Holy Spirit, not grammatical investigation. The spirit is the one who inspired, so we must depend and wait on the Holy Spirit for interpretation.
• It is possible to have two opposite interpretation of a text based on how the Holy Spirit would have led us differently.
Get ready, because misconceptions will be demystified… Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: Place value on proper bible interpretation.
PRAYER: I will not be a candidate of improper bible interpretation, therefore I submit myself to knowledge, in Jesus Name. Amen.
QUOTE: Improper bible interpretation will be the hot-bed for improper bible application.
