FULFILLING YOUR MINISTRY (1)

“Serving the Lord with all humility of mind and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: And how I kept back nothing but shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house… But none of these things move me neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the Gospel of the grace of God” – (Acts 20:19-24)

LIGHT FOR NOW: The Church is Jesus’ Bible School where He expresses His fullness and glory.

One person that exhibited a high level of spiritual responsibility in his ministry was Apostle Paul as portrayed in our theme text and all his epistles. He started the church in Ephesus and for about three years, he laboured tirelessly to disciple them to full maturity. Then he was about to leave them, hence his choice of words in our opening text. No believer will ever be able to exhibit thorough spiritual responsibility towards the things of the Spirit and the fulfillment of his ministry except he is discipled; he is groomed and keeps maturing. But unfortunately, many church services which were supposed to be the avenue for training and discipling believers for the work of ministry, has been turned into something not different from campaign rallies where the ministers use the photo ops for image laundering. But true discipleship needs no picture proofs! There’s much more to spiritual growth than showing up and having fun; the church is Jesus’ Bible School where He expresses His fullness and glory.
2 Corinthians 5:17-18 says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation”. The work of ministry is the responsibility of every believer. The believer who is referred to as new creation in verse 17 is the same who has been given the ministry of reconciliation in verse 18. This implies that at the point of salvation, the responsibility to preach and teach the gospel has been given to every believer. We ought to be stable, unmovable and committed, making Christ and his kingdom our number one priority. Nothing that you do for Christ goes unnoticed; God is not unrighteous to forget your labour of love. Every sacrifice, every pain, every discomfort, every inconvenience you go through because of Christ is fully recorded for reward.

INSTRUCTION: Be wise! Fulfill your ministry by preaching the Gospel of Christ.
