“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” – Mark 16:15-18
LIGHT FOR NOW: The minister of the gospel has a message and that message is the gospel of Christ.
We’ve come to deduce clearly from the analysis done so far that Jesus Christ is the model minister of the gospel of God. That’s to say Jesus’ ministry in the incarnation or consequently in his sacrifice, serves the example; the model for every minister of the gospel. Therefore, from Jesus’ words (in Matthew 20:26-28 and Mark 10:43-45), it suffices to say, the first fundamental fact about the minister of the gospel is that he or she is a servant of God, of Christ. Mark 16:15-18 which is a text commonly known as the great commission is where we have Jesus’ instruction to His disciples upon His resurrection from the dead. The Matthew synoptic has this account in Matthew 28:18-20 which reads “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father, and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commended you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” The Luke synoptic has this account in Luke 24:44-48 and the words of Jesus made it clear here that he taught from the scriptures (Genesis to Malachi); and in verse 47 of Luke 24, he said that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name.
Thus, from these texts above, it is evident that the apostles were to teach and preach what and how they had been taught by the Lord Jesus “…the gospel, repentance and forgiveness of sins”. Recall that Christ both in the incarnation and upon His resurrection taught consistently from the scriptures. Thus, it suffices to say that Jesus instructed them, to teach and preach the gospel of Christ from the Holy Scriptures. This was how people were to believe and be saved (Mark 16:14-16), and this was how they were to make disciples of every nation (Matthew 28:18-19). In other words, the message of the minister (servant of God, of Christ) is the gospel of Christ. Hallelujah
