“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” – Mark 16:15-18
LIGHT FOR NOW: Jesus’ ministry where we have his incarnation and consequently his sacrifice serves as an example for service.
Let’s take up from the last fact we established in previous study that the phrases “even as” and “for even” (in Matthew 20:26-28 and Mark 10:43-45) imply in context that Jesus taught His work of salvation (giving His life a ransom for many); His taking upon him the form of a servant, His obedience, His humility which He described as servanthood, as the example service for the disciples. Paul taught the same truth to believers in his letter to Philippi, it reads “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, though it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:5-8).
The phrase “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ…” clearly implies that Christ is our example of service, ministry to God. Peter also did same in 1Peter 2:21-25 which reads “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps. Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the shepherd and bishop of your souls”. In other words, Christ Jesus is the model minister of the gospel of God. That is to say, Jesus’ ministry in the incarnation or consequently, in its sacrifice, serves as the example; the model for every minister of the gospel. Hallelujah!
