“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” – Mark 16:15-18
LIGHT FOR NOW: The gospel-minded believer is the one who has understood the will of the father.
From our analysis so far, we came to establish that the term “the gospel” was used more in the New Testament writings and in these usages, the apostle Paul among all other writers used that term gospel predominantly (73 times). We began looking into few instances in which this this word “gospel” was used. In 1 Corinthians and 2 Corinthians in order to see what was emphasized. In 1 Corinthians 1:17 which we saw earlier the word “gospel” was used and the emphasis was to preach the gospel. Same thing in 1Corinthians 15:1 “The gospel which I preached unto you”. In 1Corinthians 9, Paul has this to say “If others be partakers of his power over you, are not we rather? Nevertheless we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ… Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel… For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I make the gospel of Christ without change, that I abuse not my power in the gospel” (1Corinthians 9:12, 14, 16-18).
Notice from the above text, we have:
The gospel of Christ
Preach the gospel (and this was really emphasized).
In 2 Corinthians 2:12, Paul calls it “Christ’s gospel”, it reads “Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ’s gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord”. In 2 Corinthians 4, Paul echoes “But if own gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them” (2Corinthians 4:3-4). Notice in the above text, we have: our gospel; the glorious gospel of Christ. Hallelujah!
