THE GOSPEL AND THE MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL (10)

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” – Mark 16:15-18

LIGHT FOR NOW: Our gospel is not according to our visions and dreams, but according to the scriptures.

We saw previously as our study advanced that when Paul in Galatians 1:8-9, 11 said “the gospel which he preached was not after man, but by the revelation of Jesus”, he was not referring to a personal vision or revelation, but the revelation of Christ from the Old Testament (Genesis to Malachi). Thus, we corroborated this fact from 1Corinthians 15:1-4 where Paul’s words focused on the fact that the gospel which he preached was according to the scriptures (Genesis to Malachi). In Romans 16:25-27, his words made it clear that:
The gospel was according to the revelation of the mystery (that is, the revelation of the Old Testament writings).

The gospel he preached was not personal revelations, but the writings of the scriptures of the prophets.
Note, the word “gospel” is used 102 times in the New Testament books of the bible. And from its usage, it has a higher frequency in other books of the New Testament than the synoptic gospels. It is also key to note that of all the writers, Paul used the term “gospel” the most (73 times). Paul accounts for over 70 percent of the use of the term “gospel” in the New Testament books of the bible.

We will begin to examine few instances of Paul’s usage of this word in 1st and 2nd Corinthians and see what was the emphasis and what was critical in their usages. In 1Corinthians 1:17 Paul has this to say “For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of non effect”. Notice here, the emphasis will be to “preach the gospel”. In 1Corinthians 4:15, Paul says “For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel”. Paul in 1Corinthians 15:1 says “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand”. Hallelujah!!!

INSTRUCTION: Stay with the gospels, and not with visions and dreams.

PRAYER: My eyes of understanding are enlightened, in Jesus Name. Amen.

QUOTE: The gospel is according to the revelation of the scriptures, not according to our personal revelation.
