“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover” – Mark 16:15-18
LIGHT FOR NOW: The gospel is a message that is preached; preaching is thus the vehicle of communicating the gospel.
We are still looking at the instances in which the word “gospel” was used in 1st and 2nd Corinthians, and what the emphasis was. We’ve seen a couple of texts and we will thus move further. Paul echoes this in 2 Corinthians 9:13 “Whiles by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men”. Notice again “the gospel of Christ”. In 2Corinthians 10, Paul has this to say “For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you. For we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ. To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand” (2Corinthians 10:14 and 16).
Notice here we have:
The gospel of Christ.
Preach the gospel.
In 2Corinthians 11:4, Paul echoes this “For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him”. In 2Corinthians 11:7, Paul says “Have I committed an offense in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?” Notice, in the books of 1st and 2nd Corinthians, two words were frequently used by Paul in describing the gospel; and these words are below:
“Preach or preaching” (preach the gospel).
“Christ” (the gospel of Christ).
Thus, it suffices us to say at this point, that from the analysis done so far; the gospel is a message that is preached. Giving of food is good, but that is not the gospel. Giving of clothes to the needy is good, but it’s not the gospel. The gospel is not giving of food, clothes to the needy or organizing concerts and comedy sessions in services. If it is the gospel, it must be preached! Hallelujah!!!
INSTRUCTION: Know what the gospel is.
PRAYER: I declare that my eyes of understanding are sharp and sharpened to comprehend revelation knowledge, in Jesus name, Amen.
QUOTE: God’s vehicle through which the gospel should be communicated is preaching.
