“Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of God… in whom all the building fiftly framed together growth unto an holy temple in the Lord” Ephesians 2-19-21
LIGHT FOR NOW: The born again man is defined in Christ.
The born again child of God becames part of God’s family when he heard and believed the Gospel of Salvation. “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth…” (Romans 1:16). The born again is therefore defined by Christ, as he is neither a Jew nor a Gentile but a new kind of humanity that never existed before. “For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision but a new creature” (Galatians 6:15). At resurrection, Jesus became the “First born” or “Firstbegotten” among many brethren gotten from the Greek word Prototokos (Revelation 1:5; Romans 8:29). Jesus became the sample, model or prototype for every believer, and every member of God’s family look like Him. In our anchor verses, the word household is deliberately used and it means a common heritage, a common culture and commonness of identity; implying that whatsoever is seen in Jesus is replicated in the believer and whatsoever is not in Christ is not also in the believer. This is because the believer is found in Christ. Again, in our anchor text, Apostle Paul also used the word temple which is translated from the Greek word Naos and it refers to an inner shrine that houses the image of God. What Paul is invariably saying is that, it is in the new creature that the presence of God resides.
Now the crux of the matter is that there’s a responsibility that comes with carrying the presence of God; God wants you to think beyond yourself, He wants you to go beyond yourself and reach out to as many as you can with His presence. God wants to have more sons hence, He left His spirit in you; He wants you to think and act urgently by taking the message of salvation to others so that more people will become part of His household. God doesn’t want us to be comfortable doing nothing about evangelism and discipleships. Furthermore, God wants us to be fully committed to giving generously for the work of the kingdom. Someone’s eternity depends on your positive response to this call. So don’t be selfish, kindly respond wisely!
