“The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool – Psalm 110:1.

LIGHT FOR NOW:The right hand of the Father is the place of regency or authority.

We have established that the dominion and authority of Genesis 1:26-28 is the right hand of the Father. Hence, the need for us to quickly examine what the right hand of the Father is. First of all, when we say the Father’s right hand, don’t think of the Father’s right hand side, no! It is not a literal right hand side; hence, the right hand of the Father is a figure of speech. So when David said “The LORD said unto my Lord, sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool”, what was he saying? The word “sit” here from the original Hebrew can be rendered as “sit and continue to sit…” Before we continue, let’s know whom this prophecy of Psalm 110:1 was about; Jesus in Matthew 22 brings this to the spotlight, it reads “While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, what think ye of Christ? Whose son is he? They say unto him, the son of David. He saith unto them, how then doth David in the spirit call him Lord, saying the LORD said unto my Lord, sit thou on my right hand till I make thine enemies thy footstool” (Matthew 22:41-44). Jesus in the above text was making reference to the prophecy of David in Psalm 110:1 and from Jesus’ words, it is clear that the prophecy of Psalm 110:1 was about him; David was announcing the Christ.

Now, the term “right hand” (sit at my right hand) is a figure of speech for authority or regency. In other words, “sit at my right hand” speaks of occupying an authority. So the right hand of the Father is the place of authority. That prophecy found its fulfillment upon the resurrection of Jesus. That is, it was upon his resurrection he sat and continues to sit. The good news is; the believer in Christ sits together with Him at the right hand of the Father; that is, the believer occupies this sphere of authority in Christ. How do we know? Paul in Ephesians 1 gives us a lead, it reads “That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all. ” (Ephesians 1:17-23). That is the sphere of the believer’s authority; it is far above all principalities and powers.
