“And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” – Genesis 1:26-28.
LIGHT FOR NOW: God’s plan for the Adam of Genesis 2:7 is the Adam of Genesis 1:26-28
We have seen and established that the plan of God for man who was made a living soul is the man who is the image and likeness of God and occupies the authority or dominion of the Father. Remember, we said that man (Adam) in Hebrew refers to mankind (male and female). And we have seen that we have two Adams; and established that the Adam who was made in the image of God occupying the dominion or authority of the Father (Genesis 1:26-28) is not the same Adam in Genesis 2:7 who was made a living soul. Also remember that the plan of God for the Adam of Genesis 2 is the Adam of Genesis 1. Meaning God’s plan for man who was made a living soul was for him to be in the image of God; and for him to be in dominion and authority. Let’s identify these two Adams in order to know who the image of God is and who occupies the authority of the Father. Take note of our key text above (Genesis 1:26-28) as we now read Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul”. The epistles are the explanation of the Old Testament; so to distinguish these two humanities, we would pay attention to the epistles as clarity comes to the fore. Paul in 1Corinthians 15:45 gives us a lead, it reads “And so it is written, the first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit”. The first man here refers to Adam, showing that Adam was formed in Genesis 2:7 and not Genesis 1:26-28. The Adam of Genesis 1:26-28 is God’s Adam who is the plan of God for the Adam of Genesis 1:26-28. Notice, Paul here in 1Corinthians 15:45 has a reference text he is quoting from which is Genesis 2:7.
