“And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” – Genesis 1:26-28.
LIGHT FOR NOW: It takes the right understanding of scriptures for right interpretation of scriptures.
How do we know that the believer’s authority is not an afterthought of the Father; it wasn’t a reaction but a proaction? How can our investigation bring to the spotlight the correctness or incorrectness inherent in the believer or theology that “Adam was created in God’s image and likeness, he had the life of God and was given authority and dominion by God which he later losed when he fell (sinned); and God had to send Jesus to die and take the dominion Satan collected from Adam back to man?” The understanding of Genesis 1:26-28 will answer all these. So the questions are:
- Did Adam even function in God’s dominion or authority at all? This is because if Adam had the dominion at all, then he wouldn’t have lost it.
- Was Adam offered the dominion or authority? And if yes is the answer, the question now is, did he accept it?
It is important at this point to say that Genesis 1:26-28 is God’s plan of the new creation in Christ. The man in Genesis 1:26-28 is the plan of God for the man in Genesis 2:7. The man in Genesis 1:26-28 who is the image of God, likeness of God; who is the custodian of God’s dominion and authority is the plan of God for the man in Genesis 2:7 who were made a living soul. The Adam in Genesis 1:26-28 and the Adam in Genesis 2:7 are not the same Adam; the man (Adam) in Genesis 1:26-28 who is the image of God and the one who occupies the authority of God is the plan of God for the man in Genesis 2:7 who was made a living soul. In clearer terms, the plan of God for the man who was made a living soul was for him to be in the image of God.
